“Web of Lies”: M. Kharge responds to the PM’s claim of ‘8 crore jobs in 4 years’.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s criticism follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reference to an RBI report stating that India added nearly 4.7 crore jobs during 2023-24.

In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s claim that the creation of eight crore jobs in four years has countered false narratives about unemployment, Congress has retaliated, accusing the Prime Minister of fabricating falsehoods.

“Mr. Narendra Modi, yesterday in Mumbai, you wove a web of lies regarding job creation. Allow me to remind you of your words when announcing the National Recruitment Agency (NRA) in August 2020,” said Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, quoting the Prime Minister. “You claimed, ‘NRA would prove to be a boon for crores of youngsters, simplifying eligibility exams and saving time and resources, while enhancing transparency.'”

Kharge posed three questions: “Why has the NRA not conducted a single exam in four years? Why has it spent just ₹58 crore of the ₹1,517 crore allocated fund? Was the NRA intentionally kept dysfunctional to deny reservation rights to SC, ST, OBC, and EWS youth?” These questions were raised in a post on X.

Kharge also referred to controversies surrounding the leakage of question papers in various competitive exams, alleging, “While the NTA was involved in manipulating exams and leaking papers, the NRA did not conduct any exams. The BJP-RSS are determined to undermine the education system and jeopardize the future of our youth. We have raised concerns about the NRA before, but the Modi government has chosen to remain silent.”

The Congress president’s remarks follow the Prime Minister’s reference to a Reserve Bank of India report indicating the addition of nearly 4.7 crore jobs during 2023-24. During an event in Mumbai where he inaugurated infrastructure projects worth ₹29,000 crore, the Prime Minister criticized opposition parties for exaggerating the issue of unemployment during the recent general election campaign. “This figure has silenced those spreading false job narratives. Those who propagate such falsehoods are foes of investment, infrastructure development, and enemies of the country’s progress. Their policies betray the youth and obstruct job creation. Now, their lies are being exposed as people reject their falsehoods,” Modi asserted.
