Karnataka Government Investigates Mysuru Land Scam with Inquiry Commission
As per the directive, retired High Court judge Justice P N Desai will lead the inquiry commission alone.
Bengaluru: On Sunday, the Karnataka government initiated an inquiry commission to investigate the alleged alternative site scandal involving the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
Retired High Court judge Justice P N Desai has been appointed to lead this single-member commission, according to the directive.
The commission has been tasked with completing its investigation and submitting a report to the state government within six months. The order specifies that relevant departments and MUDA officials must fully cooperate by providing Justice Desai with necessary documents and information.
The government issued this order late Sunday night, just before the Legislative session scheduled from July 15 to July 26.
The controversy erupted after BJP leaders claimed that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi, was among those who received alternative plots under dubious circumstances.
Siddaramaiah vehemently denied these allegations, asserting that MUDA had taken over four acres of his wife’s land without permission and developed it into a layout. He stated that MUDA compensated them by offering alternative plots.
The BJP has raised concerns about the legitimacy of these transactions, questioning how MUDA could intervene in such a prominent property. The estimated size of the scandal is approximately ₹3,000 crore.
In response to the issue, the BJP organized a protest in Mysuru on Friday.
