In Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, a tragic incident unfolded as four children drowned when their mother, Sugna Bai (40), jumped into a well with them in an attempted suicide on Sunday morning. The heartbreaking event took place in Pipalkheda village, Garoth, located about 100 km from the district headquarters.
Local residents acted swiftly to rescue Sugna Bai from the water, but sadly, they were unable to save her children in time. The victims were identified as Arvind (11), Anusha (9), Bittu (6), and Kartik (3). Additional Superintendent of Police Hemlata Kuril informed reporters that the bodies of the children were later retrieved from the well.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Sugna’s actions followed an incident where her husband, Rodu Singh, had allegedly assaulted her the previous evening. Distressed, Sugna fled their home with her children and sought refuge at a nearby school for the night. Tragically, at around 6 am, she took the drastic step of jumping into the well with her children.
The bodies of the children have been sent for post-mortem examination, and authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding this devastating event.
