An infiltration attempt was foiled in J&K’s Battal Sector, where a soldier was injured in the exchange of fire.
This is the second terrorist incident reported in the Jammu region within two days.
Srinagar: Early this morning, the Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt in the Battal sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The attack occurred around 3 am, resulting in a soldier being injured during the exchange of fire, according to the Army’s XVI Corps. This marks the second terrorist incident in the Jammu region in two days.
“Alert troops foiled an infiltration attempt in the Battal Sector at 3 am, effectively engaging the infiltrating terrorists. One brave soldier was injured during the intense exchange of fire.”
The infiltration attempt comes amid a surge in terror attacks, particularly in Jammu. Over the past 32 months, 48 army soldiers have been killed while fighting terrorists in the region.
Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited the Union territory on Sunday to discuss measures to address the increase in terrorist attacks in an area that was free from terrorism a few years ago.
Within 24 hours of his visit, terrorists attacked an army camp in Rajouri and the house of a Village Defence Guard, a Shaurya Chakra awardee instrumental in neutralizing two terrorists last year. A soldier was injured in the firing early Monday morning, but heavy retaliation by the Army forced the attackers to flee.
Last Friday, terrorists fired at a temporary army camp set up in a school in Doda district. In the same area, four soldiers, including a captain, were killed last week, only days after five soldiers were killed in an ambush in Kathua.
Security forces have identified the involvement of Pakistani terrorists in these attacks and are developing strategies to locate and eliminate them. Recently, the Army deployed more troops and Para Special Forces commandos to combat the highly trained terrorists in the Jammu region.
