A show cause notice has been issued to the mother of IAS officer Puja Khedkar regarding a video featuring a gun.
The notice requires Manorama Khedkar to explain why her gun license should not be revoked and has given her a 10-day deadline to respond.
In Pune, Manorama Khedkar, mother of IAS probationer Puja Khedkar, received a show cause notice on June 13 from Pune Police regarding the alleged misuse of a licensed firearm. Pune Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar issued the notice after a viral video showed Manorama Khedkar, also the Sarpanch of Bhalgaon village in Ahmednagar, brandishing a pistol during a heated argument.
The notice requires Manorama Khedkar to justify why her gun license should not be revoked within 10 days. This action comes after a complaint was filed under the Arms Act by a local farmer who accused her and others of threatening him in the Pune rural police jurisdiction.
Puja Khedkar, amidst ongoing controversies, was recently transferred from Pune to Washim district, and the Central Government has formed a committee to investigate allegations surrounding her and her family. She declined to comment on the committee’s formation, citing government rules that prohibit her from speaking on the matter.
The controversy surrounding Puja Khedkar, a trainee IAS officer from the 2023 batch in Maharashtra, has deepened with accusations of misusing authority and submitting fraudulent disability and caste certificates for civil services qualification. These allegations include unauthorized use of a vehicle with beacon lights and seeking privileges such as a separate office, official vehicle, and staff.
Recently, the central government appointed a committee to verify Khedkar’s candidature and related details following public outcry over her alleged misuse of power as a civil servant. The committee, led by a senior officer of Additional Secretary rank, is expected to submit its findings within two weeks, as announced by the Ministry of Personnel.
