“BJP to Meet in UP Today to Evaluate By-Election Plans Following Major Election Loss”
“Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has scheduled a cabinet ministers’ meeting at 11 am at his residence in Lucknow.”
In Lucknow today, top BJP leaders from Uttar Pradesh are convening to assess preparations for the upcoming by-elections to 10 assembly seats. These elections mark the state’s first major polls following a significant reduction in the ruling party’s Lok Sabha seat count.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called for a meeting of cabinet ministers at his Lucknow residence at 11 am. This gathering holds particular importance as the BJP evaluates its electoral strategies following less-than-satisfactory results in the Lok Sabha elections.
Despite securing a strong majority in the 2022 assembly polls, the BJP only managed to win 33 out of UP’s 80 Lok Sabha seats, trailing behind the Samajwadi Party’s 37 seats. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya met with BJP chief J.P. Nadda last evening but left the BJP headquarters without addressing the media.
There are reports suggesting that J.P. Nadda may also meet with UP BJP chief Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary, although no official agenda for the meeting has been disclosed.
During a recent conclave, Chief Minister Adityanath attributed the BJP’s electoral setbacks to “over-confidence” and highlighted challenges in countering the INDIA bloc’s campaign, with J.P. Nadda also present at the event.
The BJP faced setbacks not only in Uttar Pradesh but also nationally, failing to secure a majority in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. To discuss these electoral outcomes, the party has scheduled a meeting in Delhi at the end of this month, inviting all its chief ministers and deputy chief ministers. The meeting will also focus on Modi 3.0’s inaugural budget and the action plan for the first 100 days.
Among the senior BJP leaders expected to attend are Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and BJP chief J.P. Nadda.
